Hey!
I know the feeling. You sit down with your instrument, ready to practice, but something’s holding you back. The hours slip by, and then days, then weeks. It starts with a moment of self-doubt. Am I good enough? Why does it feel like I’m always behind?
I’ve been there. In fact, I’ve spent years struggling with these very thoughts—thoughts that nearly made me quit playing altogether.
I remember when I first picked up the drums, I felt extremely excited… and I felt like I belonged there. But it was short lived. I was discouraged by someone older and then I felt totally lost. I was frustrated and I wanted to be great—immediately. But I wasn’t. I thought maybe I wasn’t “cut out” for music. But a dream deferred makes the heart sick. I couldn’t avoid my desire but now I was plagued by insecurity. Every day felt like a battle between wanting to succeed and feeling like I was failing.
But here’s the thing—I learned that it wasn’t about playing perfectly right away or impressing others. It wasn’t about always being on top of every skill. The key was consistency and building a healthy, sustainable practice routine that worked for me. Something that fed into my dream.
It took time, patience, and a lot of trial and error, but eventually, I found the rhythm. I learned how to make practice something I could look forward to rather than something I dreaded. And most importantly, I stopped letting self-doubt hold me back. Once I embraced that, I could focus on the joy of making music and the excitement of performing at my best.
That’s exactly why I created the program I’m about to launch. I wanted to help others—people just like you—who may feel like they’re stuck in the same cycle of frustration and uncertainty. This program isn’t just about theory or technique. It’s about building the confidence to show up every day and the mindset to keep going.
This isn’t just another practice schedule. It’s a game-changer that combines sustainable practice habits with performance readiness. Over the next few days, I’m going to share with you some simple, but powerful tips on how you can take control of your practice, overcome that inner critic, and start feeling more confident about your playing.
I can’t wait to show you how small changes can lead to big transformations. Whether you want to perform on stage, record your own music, or simply play for the joy of it—this program will help you get there.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's email, where I’ll reveal one of my favorite strategies for creating a practice routine that sticks. Trust me, it will make a huge difference!
Here’s to taking the first step toward your musical transformation. I’m excited to be with you on this journey.
Best,
Granville Mullings, Jr.
